Notes written 13 Feb 2016

This folder contains scripts and temporary data files involved with the creation of my 2013 nanogenmo novel, "I got a alligator for a pet", from Pentametron's history. Unfortunately I don't remember all the details of how it was made.

The rhyme files (lotsarhyme, lotsashuffle, rhymes.txt and rhymes.shuffled.txt) were made by searching and scrambling Pentametron's log files with the unix grep and shuf commands.

epic.py is a python script that used a rhyme file as input to generate a sequence of well-formed sonnets, formatted using the Markdown text formatting language. I shoved rhymes into epic.py until the output reached 50,000 words - the output is either ou8kt.md or out.md; I don't remember what the difference between those two files is.

I used an online markdown-to-PDF converter to create the final PDF file, alligator.pdf.

The entire project was started and completed during the last two or three hours of November 31, 2013, as a last-minute exercise to enter Darius Kazemi's nanogenmo.
